a09Nov - Pianist Arthur RoweCanadian pianist, Arthur Rowe, critically acclaimed recitalist, soloist with orchestra and chamber musician, will present a solo recital on Sunday, November 9th at 3:00 pm in chapel at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta.  He will feature works by Schubert and Liszt.

Rowe tours annually across North America and has performed overseas as well.  He receives enthusiastic reviews for his performances, which cite his “unusual clarity of articulation” and “poetry of expression” [The London Times, London, England].  As a recording artist, he is heard frequently on radio broadcasts in Canada and the U.S.  A highly respected chamber musician, Mr. Rowe regularly collaborates with artists and chamber ensembles across North America. Performances for 2014-15 include concerts with the Dover Quartet, winners of the recent Banff International String Quartet competition, The Linden Quartet, tenor Benjamin Butterfield, cellist Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Jonathan Crow, Concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony, and William Preucil, Concertmaster of the Cleveland Orchestra.

Having previously held positions at The University of Iowa, and The University of Western Ontario, Arthur Rowe now resides in Victoria, where he is Professor of Piano at The University of Victoria, and the Artistic Director of the Victoria Summer Music Festival.

Rowe has a special connection with the Augustana Campus, as he is currently the teacher of Elizabeth Clarke, an Augustana Piano Performance graduate. Elizabeth was a top award-winning scholar while at UAlberta. She recently won the University of Victoria Concerto Competition and will be performing the Brahms First Piano Concerto with the university’s orchestra this November.

Mr. Rowe will also present a Piano Masterclass on Sunday, November 9th at 5:30 pm in the Augustana Chapel.  Particpants are the Augustana Bachelor of Music piano performance majors. The masterclass is free to the public.
