15Nov - AQUA KaraoQueenAugustana Queers and Allies (AQUA) is hosting a night of improv, karaoke, and drag called Karaoqueen on Saturday November 15 at 8:00 PM at the Rusty Spur.

The event will feature Lilith Fair, an award-winning drag queen named Edmonton’s Best Comedy Act of 2014/15. The night will be opened by Augustana’s own Gnome Ocean Improv Group, followed by a karaoke contest with hundreds of dollars in prizes, all topped off with a show from Miss Lilith Fair.

The show will be a great opportunity to learn about what it means to do drag, and to discuss topics related to gender and sexuality in a safe, fun atmosphere. Our hope is that people will be prompted to think about gender and sexuality in new ways and perhaps question stereotypes they hold.

Tickets are on sale now for $2 in the Forum and at the Rusty Spur, and will be available at the door.

Revitalized in 2013 after a year without leadership, AQUA is a club that works to create a more accepting, welcoming campus atmosphere for all, particularly students, faculty, and staff who identify as sexual or gender minorities. To make positive change at Augustana, AQUA ran an anti-bullying campaign called “Erase Words that Hurt,” organized the 2nd annual U of A Pride Week, and hosted multiple speakers and movie nights on topics of trans* rights, the LGBTQ movement, and healthy sexuality.
