This past weekend the Vikings took on the Lakeland College Rustlers. Friday night’s game took place in Camrose in front of a smaller, but none-the-less, spirited, dressed-up crowd. The Vikings cam out strong in the first set and proceeded to win the opener 25-19. The second set started out a little bit rougher with the Vikings beginning to make a few too many unforced errors. The result was a second set loss 22-25. The Vikings, being unhappy with the second set loss, responded very well in the third and fourth set winning both 25-12 and 25-18 respectively, winning the match 3-1. Luke Ryan took the player of the game honors with 16 kills, 5 service aces, and 5 digs. Andrew Kaliel and Jordon Gardiner also had a strong game offensively with 12 and 11 kills respectively. Devin Varga led the way with 49 assists.

On Saturday the Vikings travelled to Lloydminster for round two. The Vikings managed to keep pace with the Rustlers for the first few points in front of Lakeland’s home crowd then started to widen the gap and didn’t look back winning the first set 25-16. The second and third sets were a little bit closer with the Vikings not playing their best ball but still controlling the pace of the game. The Vikings ended up winning both of the last two sets 25-21 and 25-20, winning Saturday’s match in three straight sets. Thomas Regier received the player of the game on Saturday with 12 digs. With two wins on the weekend the Vikings improve to 4-0 on the season, having beat the Grand Prairie Wolves the previous weekend in both matches, and sit first place in the North Division.

This upcoming weekend the Vikings will travel to Fort McMurray to take on the Keyano Huskies for two matches. The next Vikings home game will be Saturday, November 15th. Hope to see you there!
