08-20Mar - Francophone Week in Camrose Events

08-20Mar – Francophone Week in Camrose Events

This year La semaine de la francophonie will be held from 16th -20th March 2015 as a joint collaboration between the Dept of Fine Arts & Humanities (Augustana) and  the Francophone community represented by the Camrose-Battle River Circle of the Association canadienne-française de l’Alberta (ACFA). This week is part of the annual Rendez-vous de la Francophonie (RVF) initiative which promotes cross-cultural dialogue between Francophone and all other communities in Canada and around the world.

At Augustana, a slam poetry workshop and competition (18th March) with Dr Donia Mounsef (North Campus Department of Drama) as well as two NFB French film screenings (16th and 20th March) will be held during the week. Other events in the community include a concert (8th March) and the hoisting of the Franco-Albertan flag on 20th March (Journée Internationale de la Francophonie).

An evening of celebration- ‘La célébration de la francophonie’ – will take place on Thursday the 19th of March from 5-7.30 pm at Augustana. The evening will feature a prize distribution ceremony for winners of the Prix de la Francophonie (song and essay competitions held in local schools) and the Excellence in French awards (school and university categories). The program will also include performances by Augustana students and winners of the song competition.

We are expecting about 75-100 Francophiles and Francophones from the community (parents, teachers and friends of prize winners) as well as our own students and staff members. All events are open to the public.
