Saturday, May 30

6:00 p.m.
Graduand Banquet for graduands and their guests. Tickets for graduands and their guests are on sale in the Registrar’s Office.

Sunday, May 31

10:30 a.m.
Baccalaureate Service: a worship service in the Chapel, with the celebration of the Eucharist.

12:00 noon
Luncheon in the cafeteria: Tickets are available in the Registrar’s Office on a first come, first served basis.

2:30 p.m.
Annual Spring Convocation for the conferring of degrees. At a time closer to the event, a detailed description of the event and the procedures for the ceremony will be provided. Please expect to commence assembling for the event at 1:30 p.m. Admission for guests is by a Reservation Card.

Honorary Doctor of Science Degree Recipient, Russell Schnell:

Dr_Russell_SchnellBorn in the community of Castor, U of A alumnus Russell Schnell has forged a distinguished global career as an atmospheric scientist. While at the Alberta Hail Studies program, he observed that certain bacteria on decaying leaves were probably a key factor in initiating rain, hail and snow—a discovery now being confirmed with recent advances in genetic techniques.

His research has since taken him to more than 70 countries, and he has published more than 120 papers on ice nuclei, ozone, Arctic air pollution, greenhouse gases, and methane leaks from oil and gas operations. A leader in establishing international networks for observing atmospheric composition, Schnell is currently deputy director of the Global Monitoring Division of the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. He has also served as a member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that shared the Nobel Peace Prize with former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore in 2007.
