Every fall, we host an Alumni Weekend to welcome our over 9,000 alumni back to Augustana. Check out photos from the weekend’s events!

AWLogo-Aug-edit-v1Every fall, we host an Alumni Weekend to welcome our over 9,000 alumni back to Augustana. This year’s Alumni Weekend was held September 24-27, 2015. Alumni from Camrose Lutheran College, Augustana University College, and the University of Alberta’s Augustana Campus joined faculty, staff and students to celebrate this wonderful place!

Several groups hosted reunions to reconnect with old friends and reach out to favourite professors. The Classes of 1955 and 1959 got together on Saturday, while our Golden Alumni were recognized at the Sunday Brunch. Vikings Basketball alumni played against each other and then spent the evening at a fundraising pub night. Alumni of the Costa Rica biology program met with Doc Larson and Doris Audet to share memories, photos and the project’s progress. Finally, former students of Dr. Milton Schlosser and Dr. Tim Parker – both of whom are celebrating 30 years of teaching at Augustana – gathered to reminisce.

That evening, the entertainment continued at the Vikings Men’s Hockey Home Opener against the SAIT Trojans. By the end of the 5-0 game, the Encana Arena was echoing with Vikes Nation cheers!

Vikings Basketball Alumni games & Pub Night
Time to Play! Annual Theme Recital

IMG_3011Many of our former athletes and fans joined several Augustana Vikings games over the course of the afternoon, followed by a Basketball Alumni Pub Night late into the evening. That evening, the packed Cargill Theatre inside the new Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre rang with music. Augustana piano professor Dr. Milton Schlosser introduced this year’s Theme and some details about the performance in a brief presentation, then left the stage to the incomparable duo of Andrew Wan (violin) and Jacques Deprés (piano).

Sunday, September 27:
Alumni Worship Service
Alumni Brunch
Founders’ Hall Grand (Re-)Opening

IMG_3163Over 100 people attended our annual Alumni Worship Service, delivered by Augustana Chaplaincy. This was followed by a pancake brunch in the Lougheed Centre. The crowning jewel of the day, however, was the Grand (Re-)Opening of Founders’ Hall after two years of renovations.

Founders’ Hall, affectionately known as “Old Main”, was built in 1912 to serve the needs of the then Camrose Lutheran College. Founders’ Hall has provided space for residences, dining, classes, music studios, faculty and administrative offices, etc. The redesigned building kept much of the exterior look of the building – while adding a much-needed elevator. However, the interior is almost unrecognizable!

We took a special moment during Alumni Weekend to celebrate the opening of the Luther & Florence Olson Welcome Centre, a space on the main floor of Founders’ Hall that will serve as a campus living room and place to feature memorabilia from the last hundred years.
