UAlberta Augustana VikingsThis past weekend was the start of ACAC league games for the Augustana Women’s Volleyball team. On Friday, October 23rd, the team travelled to Edmonton to take on the King’s Eagles. With a brand new team made up of five returning players and seven newcomers the Vikings felt ready to start their competitive season. The team struggled with serving and passing on Friday, but began to find their rhythm in the second and third sets. Unfortunately, the team lost three straight sets 16-25, 18-25, and 23-25. Captain Jill Metrunec was player of the game.

On Saturday, October 24th, the Viking’s had their home opener and were ready for another match. The team struggled with serving in the first set and Captain Jill Metrunec went down with an injury. The Viking’s lost the first set 12-25. The second set was a comeback for the team, but they lost a hard fought set 23-25. In an entertaining third set the Viking’s just couldn’t finish and lost the third set 17-25. First year player, Lauren Van Dyke, was player of the game.
