Dreaming of Home: Susan Aglukark’s Christmas Tour
Join Susan Aglukark on her mini Christmas tour in support of her latest release, “Dreaming of Home”. Dreaming of Home is Susan’s 8th album, a Christmas CD with a selection of traditional Christmas songs and includes songs that talk about celebrating Christmas with family both home and away.
“My fondest memories of Augustana are of some of the most amazing people working there,” she says about her return visit. “Also, I have to say that it is at the Augustana Campus that I truly fell in love with the Round Dance experience. Thank you for the fond memories, Augustana.”
Susan’s childhood memories of Christmas are of an entire Northern community or village coming together to celebrate as she recalls she did in her hometown of Arviat, Nunavut and so some selections of her Christmas album are songs that bring Susan back to this sense of home.
Susan will be performing her favorite Christmas songs like Silent Night (Inuktitut) and Old Toy Trains, Susan has also chosen to record and will be performing songs like O Come O Come Emmanuel, (Inuktitut) another of Susan’s childhood favorites.
Susan has also recorded and will be performing an all Inuktitut version of The Huron Carole. Susan had been approached by Metis book author David Bouchard to do an Inuktitut reading of his book An Aboriginal Carol (also known as the Huron Carole) and knowing of the beautiful song the Huron Carole, Susan decided to record the Inuktitut song for David’s book project and included it in her Christmas album. The Art work in the Aboriginal Carol is done by painter Moses Beaver.
