Our gift to you: “Advent in Canada”
Posted on December 22, 2015 by Christopher Thrall
Composer Milton Schlosser and Augustana’s Music Division offers you “Advent in Canada” for listening, downloading, and sharing. Happy Holidays.
Song has been an important part of Augustana Campus’s 105 years of history, no more so than during the Advent and Christmas seasons. Choral concerts have been and continue to be one of the highlights of the year on our campus.
This past December 6, 2015, the Augustana Choral program presented its annual festival concert, this year entitled “A Rose in Winter.” As part of the concert, the choirs and audience members joined in singing “Advent in Canada,” a seasonal carol – the text and music of which were written by Professor of Music Dr. Milton Schlosser.
It was composed in 2001, when Milton was Cantor of the Augustana Campus Ministry program that year. Due to the generosity and foresight of donors who funded the position, Milton was released from some teaching to focus his energies on Chapel services. One of the compositions he produced was this Advent carol. It situates the Advent season in Canada, evoking the history, landscape, climate, and wildlife of Camrose and Central Alberta.
As a gift of song, he and the entire Music Division of Augustana Campus encourage you to sing much this holiday season and, if you so desire, to share this carol with your loved ones and communities, both within Canada and internationally. He has waived copyright privileges, as long as authorship is acknowledged.
