Join the New North Collective (NNC) on Friday, January 27th at 8 pm in the Lougheed Centre’s Cargill Theatre for a wonderfully innovative concert, Images of the North.  Musicians are from Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Sylvia Cloutier, Pat Braden, Carmen Braden, Diyet, Graeme Peters, Robert Van Lieshout and Jan de Vroede bring their considerable musical talents and experience to bear in this exciting collective. Also featured will be our very own Augustana Choir, in a piece newly commissioned for us and written by Carmen Braden, and other members of the NNC, titled “Add Your Voice”.

On the shores of Kluane Lake, the members of the New North Collective came together and wrote the song “Add Your Voice”. Each member brought a different perspective and connection to life in the North, Indigenous peoples, and residential school history. Through the collaborate process, a rich offering of memories, beliefs, and questions transformed into the lyrics of the song.

It was important to the NNC to hear and acknowledge the darker histories that are part of Canada, and then to look to the future with strength, understanding and inclusion. The lyric “Add your voice to the song” became the title, and is intended to give the audience and the performers courage and empowerment to join the collective story that is this land and the people who live here. The writing of this song and the performing of it for audiences across Canada are actions of respect, reconciliation, and artistic courage. The NNC hopes that audiences hear the song and are inspired to take positive action themselves.

Tickets are $39 (adults) or $36 (students/seniors), plus GST, and available at the Box Office or through camroselive.ca. R.A.R.E.
