SATURDAY, JANUARY 27, 2018 ~ 2:00 PM

Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre

This recital will leave you spellbound by one of Canada’s most dynamic duos,  flautist Christie Reside and pianist Terence Dawson. Christie has been the principal flautist of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra since 2004. She has performed throughout Canada and has been featured with many orchestras. Terry teaches piano and chamber music at UBC and chairs the School of Music’s keyboard division. He is known internationally for his artistry as a collaborative pianist, working with both instrumentalists and singers.

Christie began her career in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra as second flute at the age of 19. She received her formal training with Timothy Hutchins at McGill University in Montreal and continued her training at the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Ms Reside has been an active participant in numerous competitions, winning the National Music Festival of Canada at the age of 14, and placing second at the Tunbridge Wells International Young Concert Artists Competition (England) as well as the Leonardo de Lorenzo International Flute Competition (Italy).

She has been invited to participate in several festivals around the world, including the Spoleto Music Festival in Italy, the Bellingham Music Festival, and the Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music. An enthusiastic chamber musician, Ms Reside has collaborated with artists such as Rudolf Jansen, Jonathan Crow, Yegor Dyachkov, and Matt Haimovitz. She frequently performs as a soloist and has appeared as such with the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, l’Orchestre Symphonique de Quebec, the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, among others. She teaches at the University of British Columbia, as well as at the Vancouver Academy of Music.

British-born, Canadian pianist Terence Dawson is one of British Columbia’s most respected musicians. His reputation as a solo pianist, chamber musician, orchestral pianist, dedicated teacher, and engaging lecturer has resulted in repeat engagements from coast to coast across Canada, as well as in the USA, England and Asia. His many performances have garnered critical acclaim: “lucid” (Globe and Mail), “stunning” (Vancouver Sun), and possessing “trademark elegance and technical flair” (Georgia Straight).

He has appeared as concerto soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, CBC Curio Ensemble, and is the pianist of choice for numerous artists and ensembles. He has performed for the Ottawa Chamber Music Society, Vetta Chamber Music, The Coast Recital Society, Music on Main, The VSO Chamber Players, The Vancouver Chamber Choir, and Phoenix Chamber Choir. Dawson served as Artistic Director and pianist of Vancouver’s celebrated Masterpiece Chamber Music Series and has recorded frequently for CBC Radio and television.

Dawson has been a competition jury member and a clinician for national organizations and educational institutions. Most recently, he was the piano jury member for the Federation of Canadian Music Festival National Competition. He is a founding faculty member of Vancouver International Song Institute (VISI) and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Summer Institute at Whistler.
