Recreational cannabis is legal in Canada as of October 17, 2018. In Alberta, people aged 18 and over can purchase cannabis and cannabis oil from stores and online. Public consumption will be permitted in Edmonton and Camrose.

The University of Alberta Augustana Campus policy is as follows:

  • Augustana is currently evaluating whether to permit smoking and vaping of cannabis products on university property. We will establish a policy in 2019. Our interim policy is that recreational cannabis use is not allowed on the Augustana campus.
  • Growing cannabis plants in any university building (other than in approved research) is not permitted. This includes residences.
  • Smoking and vaping of cannabis products is not permitted at university events, including student group events, for at least a year.
  • Sales, advertising, branding and sponsorship of cannabis products on university campuses or at university events is not permitted.

If you are a student, staff, or faculty member at Augustana, please visit this form to provide feedback on a new Alcohol, Cannabis and Tobacco policy to be implemented in 2019.
